Network management

This module configures the hostname and network interfaces independently of the network subsystem used by the system.

Attention: applying the configuration may interrupt the current network connection. Before applying changes remotely, make sure that the new settings will preserve access to the system.

General settings

Hostname can be specified as either a short name or a fully qualified domain name (FQDN).

Use the Network subsystem field to select the component that will store and apply the configuration. The available options depend on the components installed in the system. When applying changes, the module writes the selected subsystem's configuration and removes files previously created by it for other supported subsystems.

The Network Interfaces table contains physical and virtual interfaces. Select a row to view the interface parameters. The Edit button opens its settings. The Delete button is intended for virtual interfaces; physical devices are detected automatically and cannot be deleted.

Adding interfaces

Physical Ethernet and Wi-Fi devices are added to the list automatically. The Add Interface button can be used to create the following virtual interfaces:

• Linux Bridge — connects interfaces at the data link layer. Bridge members can be selected and STP can be enabled.
• Linux Bonding — combines several interfaces for redundancy or load balancing. The available additional parameters depend on the selected bonding policy.
• VLAN — creates an IEEE 802.1Q tagged subinterface. Specify the parent interface and a VLAN ID from 1 to 4094.
• VXLAN — creates an L2 tunnel over an IP network. Specify the parent interface, VNI, and the remote VTEP or multicast address. A local VTEP address and destination UDP port can also be specified.
• Veth Pair — creates two linked virtual Ethernet interfaces. Each interface can be configured separately after creation.
• Dummy Interface — creates a virtual placeholder interface that is not associated with a physical device.

An interface cannot be a member of more than one bridge or bond at the same time.

Interface settings

The available tabs depend on the interface type.

• General — the virtual interface name and MTU. VLAN and VXLAN names can be derived automatically from their parameters. Physical device names cannot be changed.
• Addresses and DNS — DHCP for IPv4 and IPv6, static addresses, the default gateway, DNS servers, and search domains. When adding a static address, select the IP version and prefix length. Separate multiple DNS servers and search domains with spaces.
• Routes — the destination network, gateway, and optional metric. Specify destination networks in CIDR notation, for example 10.0.0.0/8. Leave the destination field empty to add a default route. A default route configured here takes precedence over the default gateway on the "Addresses and DNS" tab.
• Wireless connections — the network name (SSID) and password for a Wi-Fi device.

For bridges and bonds, clearing the members' L3 settings is recommended: IP addresses, DHCP, and DNS are normally configured on the bridge or bond itself. VLAN interfaces provide a similar option for the parent interface.

Applying changes

The Apply button in an individual interface window saves changes only to the module's pending configuration. To write the selected network subsystem's settings and activate them, click Apply configuration on the main screen.

The Discard and Reload button removes all pending changes and reloads the current configuration.
